Pattern Kwik Fly MK III, 63" (ARF), Green, Seagull Model

In 1967, Phil Kraft became the FAI Pattern World Champion flying his own design, the Kwik-Fly Mk III. Although there were more elegant models at the time, the Kwik-Fly Mk III became famous—likely because it won the world championship—and was built and enjoyed by modelers all over the world. Phil Kraft pioneered proportional radio control and fully exploited the potential of this new technology through his own model designs. The Kwik-Fly Mk III represents the culmination of a major stage in the evolution of R/C model flying, marking the point when equipment first allowed complete and precise control of the model.

The Kwik-Fly Mk III, the third generation in the Kwik-Fly series, is another classic from designer Phil Kraft. It was the winning model at both the 1967 Nationals and the International competitions. The goal of the design was to create a simple, straightforward competition aircraft that still performed at a high level. According to Kraft, the aircraft "grooves through maneuvers," highlighting its smooth and stable flying characteristics. The low-wing design of the Kwik-Fly Mk III is well-engineered and stands out as one of the top-class models from a flying standpoint. Its flight characteristics are so balanced and forgiving that even RC pilots new to aerobatics can use it as a training model with confidence.
