Saw the price, took the bait, swallowed the hook! :joy::joy:. I’ve purchased or received a few Seagull Models in the past and this one is by far the “cheapest” build I’ve come across. I’m not disappointed, but I’d rather share build comments than let all y’all think this is a winner outa the box. It prolly is, but only for a limited time IMO.
For an inexpensive weekend beater, this isn’t a BAD toss around flyer. A few issues had me concerned, but fortunately, I keep plenty of upgraded hardware in my inventory. For starters…CA hinges…junk! Toss em and install the hinged design, you’ll be glad you did. NOT impressed with only 4 plastic wing thumbscrews for the wing hold setup. No anti roll pins at all. Over time the through holes in the fuse will get sloppy and you’ll loose some incidence. Enough to make a difference, meh, who knows, but it’s a lazy way of hanging the panels. I wanted to hang my Saito120 on the nose, but the thrust washer to firewall distance is outside specs for THIS engine to still be able to have the cowl fit even close. I punched my own holes for an OS120AX with Pitts pipes. She’s a bit snug in the cowl, but still managed to cut the cowl pretty clean and still achieve a nice functional look. The supplied instructions will make for an excellent fire starter…absolutely horrible. I’ve done enough building over the years to pick up on it. Many of us do the printed picture location verification method (say that fast 3x), and I discovered that after installing my servos ACCORDING to the pix w the output shaft this way or that, my control rods were about 15mm too long. Well duh, I turned the servos around and viola, almost perfect install length. Little crap like that is outside the QC at Seagull, but oh well. The fuel tank will make ya scratch ur head as well. It fits nicely in the factory cradle, EXCEPT, the 3 line stopper does NOT fit into the firewall recess “square”, but rather you have to lift the tank so the stopper is about a 1/2” above the floor on stopper end and flat on the other. Huh?? Pretty wonky set up, but it works. If ya do look closely at the cryptic manual pix there IS one photo that shows this. It really isn’t a bad build, but for 280 bones, ya get what ya pay for. I’ll thrash this until the expiration comes due and move on. I just wanted a weekend beater to toss around, and this fit the bill perfectly, just remember to spend a couple extra minutes and $$$ to upgrade some of the hardware. It’ll be fine if you pay attention.
