To prepare your balsa or composite leading edges, drill a 4.5mm pilot pocket hole slightly deeper than half the length of one hinge barb side. Before epoxying the barbs into place, apply a tiny drop of light oil or petroleum jelly directly to the center steel knuckle to prevent trailing glue from wicking into the pivot pin track. Use a slow-curing 30-minute epoxy so the adhesive completely sets around the ribbed grooves inside the trailing edge blocks, forming solid internal anchors once cured.
