Historical Context
Lamar Steen designed the Steen Skybolt as a high-school engineering project, with the prototype first flying in October 1970. The American homebuilt aerobatic biplane became a popular amateur-built sporting aircraft, with more than 400 completed from plans and examples reaching over 29 countries. A Skybolt earned reserve grand champion custom-built honors at the 1979 Experimental Aircraft Association air show in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.
